Put away that eyelash curler and try a Lash Lift!

Is a Lash Lift for me?

Located in Edmonton, our spa offers lash perm services to enhance your natural lashes. The new wave of lash perms we offer are called Lash Lifts. As a result, this is how they are listed on all our menus.

Lash lifts can last up to 12 weeks depending on after-care products used and thickness of lashes. Keep in mind that thicker lashes are more resistant and will loose their curl faster than thin lashes. Minimize rubbing and use gentle products on eye area.

The chemical process

The first step we do when doing a Lash Lift is to open the bonds in the hair, thereby giving flexibility within the mid shaft where the curl is found. The second step is to set the lashes into position and seals the hair shaft. We complete the service by reintroducing moisture back into the lashes.

How can I prepare for my lash lift service?

The best way to prepare is knowing what to expect as your your post care instructions. These lash lift care tips will help you prepare in advance:

Avoid water for 48hrs, therefore, coming to your appointment with freshly washed hair will be of benefit.

You must also avoid makeup, and pressure on the lashes for 48hrs. It is recommended to sleep on your back in order to avoid bending the lashes overnight. Using a lash comb to lift and operate the lashes will help set.

Afterwards you can return to your regular routine and products.

If you loved your Lash Lift…

We recommend that clients wait 8-12 weeks between lash lifts. This allows you hair to recover and regenerate new growth.

What did you notice first? The eyelashes or the eyebrows?

Do Lash Lifts work on Short Lashes?

How long do the eyelashes need to be for a Lash Lift?

Lash Lifts work on short lashes. However, the eyelashes should be a minimum of a half centimetre long in order to do the service safely. This is because on top of securing your eyelashes onto the silicone pad, the technician needs to apply the perming solution as close to the lash line without disturbing it. Short lashes leave little room for the technician to work with.

The lashes should be at minimum a half centimetre long for a Lash Lift.

If your eyelashes do not quite meet the required length, try using a lash enhancement serum. Previously, serums such as EyEnvy led the way in lash enhancement with no prescription necessary. This allowed millions of users to experience never-before-seen eyelash length.

Now, EyEnvy has been discontinued but you can find lash enhancement serums in most stores. We recommend Adoreyes. While sharing similarities with EyEnvy, it has some positive improvements. Examples include the timeframe in which the serum works. Unlike EyEnvy, Adoreyes works on all 3 stages of hair growth. Adoreyes may cost slightly more, but offers more serum in the bottle.

Are you ready for your Lash Lift?

Do lash lift work on very straight lashes?

Yes, however, given the fact that the hair follicle has been trained to grow in that position for so long, it may take a coupe of sessions to achieve the desired curl.

Will tinting after a lash lift damage the lashes further?

No, the level of peroxide contained in any facial dye is very low and is mainly for the purpose of depositing colour. In other words, it is not lifting. If anything, it can help to fill the opened hair cuticles.

Transitioning from Extensions to Lash Lifts

If you previously wore lash extensions, we recommend waiting 4-6 weeks before your lash lift. This will depend on how much damage has been caused by the eyelash extensions. Using a growth serum will help strengthen the lashes giving better results.

Skincare

Skincare is one of our menu highlights. Our skin care menu includes our top-rated facial- the ‘PORE’ facial. Dérmica gained popularity with the PORE over the years as one of the few remaining spas in Edmonton that does pore extraction.

Our more advanced skincare treatments include chemical peels and photofacials. These medesthetics treatments transform the skin to reveal a more radiant, youthful-looking you.

IPL therapies

“Laser” is commonly used as an umbrella term to describe phototherapy. Phototherapy uses light energy to treat major skin conditions and permanently remove unwanted hair. While “laser” is a popular form of phototherapy, other forms include infrared fractional, radio frequency, and our favourite, Intense Pulse Light (IPL).

IPL safely delivers pulses of UV light into the skin to improve skin health and remove unwanted facial and body hair.

Esthetics

Brow services are our menu’s delights. In fact, the brow Sculpt put Dérmica on the map in our early days! From regular brow waxing to semi-pemanent microblading, clients have been trusting us with their brows for years.

Other esthetics services include waxing, lash lift, relaxation massage body treatments, manicures and pedicures. Our services are a mix of traditional European techniques combined with a treatment approach, and of course, an added touch of luxury.

Glo Skin Beauty

Amongst other professional brands, we are an authorized retailer for Glo Skin Beauty products. We use the Glo line in many of our treatments because it contains clinical-grade ingredients, yet is gentle enough for even the most sensitive skin types.

Located in Edmonton, Dérmica offers a lash and brow package to help you achieve the the maximum natural enhancement.

LASH LIFT & BROW LAMINATION PACKAGE, $130

If you want eyes that captivate, this package is for you. This lash and brow package includes a Lash Lift and Brow Lamination.

Package Details

The Lash Lift adds curl and definition to your natural lashes. Lash Lifts are a new generation perming method that is safer and more effective than traditional lash perms.

We use different sizes of silicone pads to “lift” each lash individually. This creates a subtle, natural looking curl, giving the illusion of length for a full, natural yet perfect look. This eyelash treatment lasts between 6-8 weeks.

On the other hand, Brow Lamination is a perm in reverse. It involves securing the hair in an upward stroke pattern, then setting them into place with a gentle brow perming solution. Eyebrow lamination lasts 4-6 weeks.

Tint or no tint?

Adding custom tint to your lift and/or lamination will enhance your lashes and brows in a natural way. We use vegan tints that are made without the use of raw animal materials. If you choose to add tint to your service, be prepared to fall in love!

The First 48: Things to avoid after a Lash Lift

can i go swimming after lash lift

Can you go swimming after a lash lift?

Not right after but 48 hours after, yes. However, we recommend applying extra moisture to the lashes when swimming, due to the dehydrating effects of chlorine. That recommendation also applies to your hair and eyebrows. Lash serums or regular eye cream are great for added moisture around the eyes.

Chlorine

Chlorine can have a positive effect or negative effect. Trusted pools where chemical levels are balanced can have positive effects. For example, it can actually help with eczema as long as the person is properly treating their skin afterward.

Chlorine has a very drying effect on the skin and hair because of its pH level. Chlorine is very alkaline and our skin and hair are naturally acidic. As a result, chlorine throws off your pH balance. In order to recalibrate, use ph-balanced products (shampoo, conditioner, moisturizer, cleanser, toners).

Can you wear mascara after your Lash Lift?

can i wear mascara after a lash lift

Yes, as long as you are following the 48-hour post care rule of no makeup and no soaking, you can apply mascara and are free to apply it as often as you’d like. Keep in mind that you don’t want to over-cleanse. When removing the mascara, avoid using alcohol and oil-based makeup removers.

How do you maintain a lash lift?

Maintain your lash lift by following the recommended aftercare. Avoid water, steam, makeup for the first 48 hours. After that, try to use mild cleansers around the eyes. Avoid strong astringents or alcohol-based and oil-based eye makeup removers.

What should I put on my lashes after a lash lift?

Proper Lash Lift aftercare will help maximize the longevity of your lift. You can carefully add a little moisturizer to the lashes using a spoolie brush. Lash serums work as well.

Dérmica is a retailer of Adoreyes in Edmonton, AB. Adoreyes products are manufactured in Canada and are cruelty-free.

Lash Lift: The Alternative to Lash Extensions

lash extensions alternative

Lash Lift vs Lash Extensions

Lash lifts are a great alternative to lash extensions. This type of lash enhancement gives the lashes a natural appearance.

When it comes to the preservation of the integrity of the hair, lash lifts are gentler on the lashes. There are a couple of reasons for this. First, the lift is not an “additive” service- it works with your natural lashes. As a result, it does not require the lashes to carry the excess weight of artificial lashes constantly.

Secondly, extensions require each lash be connected to an artificial lash with adhesive 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. With the lift, you process one time and then work on repair.

Less frequent required visits is another benefit of the lift. Someone who can’t devote time every 2-3 weeks to fills would prefer the lift because you are looking at 6-10 weeks before you need another lift (depending on your natural lashes). In addition, there is less in-service time during the appointment in comparison to extensions.

Also, the lash lift is a very low-maintenance service. You’re looking at 48 hours post-treatment where you have to be cautious, as opposed to the daily care required with lash extensions.

There are many reasons why the lash lift is a good alternative to extensions.

Lash Lifts sound great! Why would anyone prefer extensions?

It all comes down to personal preference. While some people are looking for a fresh-faced appearance, others are looking for a dramatic finish.

Also, extensions provide additional length, whereas the lift provides the appearance of additional length. Extensions are good for people that can only achieve a certain length and they want more.

Do Lash Lifts damage the eyelashes?

Much like any other chemical processing service, its going to alter the natural state of the hair. Therefore, it does have an effect on the existing hair strand. It may make them dryer than usual, and in some cases (depending on the health of the lash before the treatment) it may cause some brittleness.

Pretreat to Prevent

These things are preventable by pretreating the lashes with a lash serum or moisturizer. Pretreating helps to condition the lashes in preparation for the chemical process. For example, when getting your hair done, its always best to condition and mask prior to your hair colouring service. You would take a similar approach with the lashes.

Repair

After you get your hair processed, you usually start using more conditioner or hair masks in an effort to repair. You wanna do the same for your lashes. Lash conditIoner will not only bring you back to par, but take it further by adding conditioner and enhancers that were not there before. It will replenish what you lost but also add.
