Can photofacials reduce pore size?

treatment for large pores

Located in Edmonton, Alberta, we offer the Alisa photofacial- a treatment for large pores.

Can you actually reduce pore size?

Small pores indicate good skin health and present a youthful appearance. If you did not win the “skin lottery” genetically, there is not much we can do to reduce the natural size of your pores. On the other hand if your pores have become enlarged over time, IPL photofacial treatments can help you “shrink” your pores back to a normal size, particularly, the ALISA treatment.

IPL phototherapy uses a broad spectrum of light pulses that penetrate deep into the skin. These light pulses gently heat the tissue and stimulate a natural restorative response. This process boosts collagen production, which enhances skin elasticity and tightens the surrounding tissue. As a result, the pores appear smaller and less noticeable.

How many treatments are needed?

The number of sessions needed depends on a few factors such as your present skin condition and pore severity. Other factors include skin type and age, with younger clients responding faster due to higher collagen production.

Typically, clients begin to see results after a few sessions, with optimal improvements in pore size and skin clarity appearing after 3–4 treatments, spread 3-4 weeks apart.

Do photofacials hurt?

Photofacials are non-invasive. They are relatively painless, especially for individuals with light to medium skin tones. Individuals with medium to dark brown skin are eligible for the treatment but may experience a light pinching sensation. This sensation is normal. It occurs because darker skin tones contain more melanin which absorbs more of the IPL’s broad-spectrum light. It is this excess absorption that can lead to increased heat buildup in the skin, causing discomfort.

Photofacials require minimal downtime. For those seeking a refined, radiant complexion without invasive treatments, photofacials offer a luxurious and effective path to clearer and tighter skin

Phototherapy Treatment for Aging Skin

Located in Edmonton, Alberta, Dérmica offers treatment for aging skin. Phototherapy is included in our treatment menu as a powerful treatment to fight the common signs of aging.

Common Signs of Aging Skin

While we all age at different rates depending on several factors, for example, genetics and diet, there are four common signs of aging.

signs of aging- loss of elsaticity- dermica, edmonton

1. Loss of Elasticity

As we age we stop producing collagen at the same rate. This in turn affects the elasticity leaving us with saggy skin as we age.

2. Loss of Hydration

The sebaceous glands in the skin are not as active as we age. This loss of hydration manifests itself through a dull, sallow appearance, crepey skin, and fine lines.

3. Hyperpigmentation

Environmental factors as well as other pollutants and oxidants in the air cause aging in general. These environmental factors can also contribute to hyperpigmentation which can cause an aged appearance to the skin.

4. Thin Skin

The thickness of the skin changes as well with aging. The skin thins out as a result of the deficiencies in collagen and hydration.

How can I improve my aging skin?

When it comes to the best treatment for aging skin, phototherapy is amazing because these treatments do not cause superficial damage to the skin. The light energy penetrates directly to the collagen cells.

More specifically, IPL phototherapy consists of irradiating the target with pulsed visible radiation. As a result, the targeted area is heated above body temperature which causes the proteins to coagulate. Because the target absorbs the radiation much more strongly than the surrounding tissue, this surrounding tissue is almost not heated at all.

Best Photofacial Deal Ever!

best photofacial deal

Why choose one when you can have two?

Our bogo special is one of the best photofacial deals ever! Try ALISA for skin tightening/pore size reduction, ACLARA for hyperpigmentation, or ALIVIA for removal of redness. Click here for details.

Skin and Pore Tightening

ALISA uses yellow light (580-950nm) to blast collagen cells to boost production. It is ideal for treating dull skin appearance, textural damage such as scarring, fine lines, wrinkles, and mature skin.

Removal of Redness and Brown Spots

On the other hand, ACLARA and ALIVIA use green light (535-950nm). ACLARA destroys excess melanin cells which are expelled from the body 2-3 weeks post treatment. This photofacial is best to lighten and clear light to dark pigmented lesions.

ALIVIA cauterizes superficial vessels. Once cauterized, the vessels dissolve back into the skin. The ALIVIA photofacial is the best choice to diminish redness and dissolve broken capillaries.

Should I Peel or Flake After an Acne Treatment?

acne treatment

” I had my first acne treatment peel a week ago. I have not seen any peeling or flaking…”

Do not fret as you are still in the early stages of the treatment. Patience is key with chemical peels!

The visible reaction caused by chemical peels during and post-treatment varies per individual. There are a few key points we will cover as we help you understand your skins’ response and expectations for your recent acne treatment peel.

1 | The waiting period

At this point, it is too soon to rate the success of your treatment. Your skin is still undergoing the process of lifting the layer of skin that was separated during the application of the peel. Once the skin has fully separated from the underlying skin cells, it will begin to shed. This can take up to 2 weeks.

2 | Not all skins shed alike

When we google or hear the term ‘chemical peel’, we assume our skin will be immediately shedding in sheets or visible patches of skin.

The visible reaction through the healing process depends on the skin type and condition being treated. Oily and acne-prone skin is coarser and has a thicker oil barrier holding the skin cells together. Shedding occurs most during and after cleansing and even so does not flake like a dry skin type. Trust in the process and use exfoliant 2-3 times a week for an added boost.

3 | Number of peels

Peels are most effective when delivered in a controlled manner in order to avoid injury and produce lasting results.

To begin, the skin is treated using lighter peels in order to increase the skin’s tolerance. With each treatment, the intensity of the peels is increased until optimal results are achieved. This measured approach allows for the application of stronger acids with less risk of causing adverse reactions or irreversible damage to the skin. Keep in mind that the stronger the peel, the more visible reaction during and post-treatment.

Although the name and online visuals of the treatment can lead one to believe that all peels should cause major flaking and sloughing, this is not always the case. Be patient with your progress and trust that your skin is operating in its’ own unique way and the skin is rejuvenating on a microscopic level regardless of what you see with the naked eye.
