Waxing Hair Removal Service

Short term hair removal

Located on Whyte Avenue in Edmonton, Dérmica offers waxing hair removal service amongst other spa services

Traditionally, waxing involves the use of warm wax, typically honey or pine resin-based and cloth strips. The esthetician first preps the area by disinfecting and applying a protective barrier to the skin. The warm wax is then applied using a wooden spatula and covered with a cloth strip; this is referred to as strip waxing or soft waxing. The strip is then quickly pulled off parallel to the skin and voíla your skin is left smooth and hair free!

Ensure your hair is at least ¼ inch long prior to booking a wax service. In addition, skin must not been sunburned, treated with AHA/BHA, or prescription acne medications. Avoid caffeine for a couple hours before your appointment to reduce sensitivity. Results are visible for about 2 weeks, with 4-6 weeks before you are ready for your next visit. After care for waxing includes: avoiding heat, sun exposure, strong/fragranced, lotions, and washes for 24 hours and frequent skin exfoliation.

Long term hair removal

For a permanent solution, opt for Laser/IPL hair removal treatments. These advanced treatments should only be performed by trained and certified technicians, so do your research before going for the bargain service. Shaving is the necessary for most IPL/Laser treatments, so it’s best to have it shaved down prior to appointment.

hair removal service

The tech will begin by disinfecting your skin. Next, she will provide you with your protective eyewear before she goes zapping away. For the following 24-48 hours you will be required to avoid direct heat, perspiration, sun exposure, strong/fragranced soaps, lotions and washes.

Like waxing, ensure skin has not been sunburned, treated with AHA/BHA, or medications/vitamins affecting the skin. Typically you will notice a stunt in the growth of hair, followed by what seems to be continued growth. Four to six weeks after, the hair will begin to fall out. At this point you are ready for your next session. Most people require 6-8 treatments to see maximum results, but of course some machines are built better than others, so results may vary.

These treatments are somewhat of an investment and cause injury to your skin if not delivered properly, so do your research and make sure operational requirements are met by both the business and technician.

TIPS

For irritating razor burn and ingrown hairs we recommend picking up some “Bump Stopper”. This solution can be found in the ethnic hair care section at most drug store/supermarkets. You can also try Glo Skin Beauty’s Purifying Gel Cleanser, a great foaming wash with powerful acne-fighting ingredients that stimulate exfoliation and clears pores.

Acne Facial Edmonton

Located in Edmonton, Dérmica offers an acne facial treatment to clean and decongest oily skin.

Known as the PORE facial, this treatment includes all the essentials of a classic facial with an emphasis on clearing congested skin by extracting blackheads, milia, and other skin blemishes.

Everything leads to extractions

acne facial edmonton

Extractions are best on freshly cleansed and exfoliated skin. We begin the facial by cleansing to ensure that no harmful bacteria is present when exposing the open pore.

After cleansing and exfoliating, a specialized solution is applied to help dislodge the oily debris. The solution is commonly a sodium bicarbonate blend that creates a chemical reaction known as saponification.

Consequently, oils and fats are transformed into a soap solution. In addition, oily debris becomes water-soluble in the process.

The skin is then placed under a warm steamer. The warmth and humidity of the steam opens up the pores.

Physical extractions are performed using a special tool with directional pressure. Large pores are emptied using a “scooping” maneuver, while smaller pores are purged with a simple glide of the tool or fingers.

Following extractions, the skin is soothed and sanitized with a post extraction solution. The solution usually contains an antiseptic and a calming ingredient.

Blackhead extractions can take 15-30 minutes depending on the skin condition. They can also leave the skin looking irritated for 1-2 hours. Once the pores are cleared, they can remain clear for up to 8 weeks.

IPL/ LASER hair removal on legs

ipl/ laser hair removal legs edmonton

IPL and LASER hair removal on the legs offer different procedures that have a similar purpose and achieve similar results. Located in Edmonton, AB., Dérmica offers temporary and permanent hair removal solutions.

Is laser hair removal effective on legs?

IPL/ LASER hair removal on the legs is effective even on light hair! Advanced IPL / LASER operating systems can now effectively treat lighter hair tones.

Hair colour plays an important role when setting expectations for treatment outcomes. The light energy pulsed by the operating system targets pigment cells found in the hair bulb. As a result, the more pigment cells present, the more energy is absorbed and therefore, producing optimal results.

How painful is laser on legs?

While LASER uses an actual laser, IPL uses pulse light. As a result, you may feel a slight, momentary sting, such as the snap of an elastic band, during your IPL treatments.

The sensation felt when the energy is delivered is described by most as a small pin-prick shock lasting only milliseconds. When graded on a scale from 1-5 for the pain felt during the session, clients will on average report under a level 3. The portion of the device that is in contact with the skin has a patented cooling system that keeps your skin slightly numb on contact.

Should I shave my legs before laser?

Yes, we ask that the hair be shaved flush to the skin. The reason for this is because the laser’s target is melanin. If there is hair that is long enough to cast a shadow on the skin or fold over on to the skin, that area will get the get unnecessary heat at the surface of the skin which may cause burns.

For first timers, you must wait at least 3 weeks after waxing or tweezing before your visit. The active bulbs are required to be intact for best result.

How long does laser hair removal last legs?

Results vary and can last between 1 – 5 years before a touch-up is required. Although IPL / LASER hair removal are considered methods of “permanent hair removal”, these treatments often require touch-ups. The typical span is 1 to 5 years.

How many sessions for hairy legs?

Body areas require longer rebooking timeframes than facial areas. The typical regimen is 8-12 treatment sessions, spaced 4-12 weeks apart, depending on the body area. Therefore, your treatment course could last up to 2 years when doing IPL/ LASER hair removal on the legs. That is to say, a successful IPL treatment course requires commitment.

The exact number of sessions will depend on genetics and personal preference. Clients report 20-60% reduction after the first treatment. Each session afterwards will reduce the remaining amount of hair by approximately 10%. Sessions are continued until the client has reached their reduction goal and growth has been stopped.

Skin Resurfacing Treatment Options

Located in Edmonton, our skin resurfacing treatment menu includes photofacials, peels, and dermaplaning.

Skin resurfacing is an esthetic procedure or personal use of an exfoliating product/tool that removes layers of damaged skin. It boosts the regeneration rate of skin cells and promotes collagen production. As a result, it enhances the overall appearance and texture of the skin. Additionally, it improves circulation and absorptive ability of the skin.

Skin resurfacing treatments

Methods of resurfacing include: chemical, mechanical, and light-based treatments.

LIGHT-BASED

Chemical Peel Whyte Ave

chemical peel edmonton whyte ave dermica

Located on Whyte Ave in Edmonton, Dérmica offers a chemical peel menu.

Tiny yet powerful

Chemical peels work due to their tiny size! Because of their molecular structure, these acids are able to penetrate past the acid mantle of the skin and deep into the layers beneath the surface of the skin. As a result, they separate the upper layers of the skin which causes an accelerated cell turnover rate. This causes your skin to shed and regenerate a new layer of skin in a 1 to 2 week period.

The acids used in professional peels are typically derived from natural sources and produced for safe usage on the skin. The most commonly used acids include glycolic acid, trichloroacetic acid, salicylic acid, lactic acid, or carbolic acid (phenol).

Treatment or Maintenance

The number of treatments needed depends on the severity of the condition we are treating. However, even if we are not treating any major skin concerns, it’s a good idea to incorporate a couple of peels annually to your anti-aging skin regimen by the age of 30.

Peel benefits

Chemical peels are a popular choice because they offer many benefits:

  • Increased vibrancy
  • Increased hydration
  • Increased product penetration and absorption
  • Clearance in skin tone
  • Smooth and improved texture
  • Clearance or reduction of active blemishes
  • Improved appearance of scarring

The First 48: Things to avoid after a Lash Lift

can i go swimming after lash lift

Can you go swimming after a lash lift?

Not right after but 48 hours after, yes. However, we recommend applying extra moisture to the lashes when swimming, due to the dehydrating effects of chlorine. That recommendation also applies to your hair and eyebrows. Lash serums or regular eye cream are great for added moisture around the eyes.

Chlorine

Chlorine can have a positive effect or negative effect. Trusted pools where chemical levels are balanced can have positive effects. For example, it can actually help with eczema as long as the person is properly treating their skin afterward.

Chlorine has a very drying effect on the skin and hair because of its pH level. Chlorine is very alkaline and our skin and hair are naturally acidic. As a result, chlorine throws off your pH balance. In order to recalibrate, use ph-balanced products (shampoo, conditioner, moisturizer, cleanser, toners).

Can you wear mascara after your Lash Lift?

can i wear mascara after a lash lift

Yes, as long as you are following the 48-hour post care rule of no makeup and no soaking, you can apply mascara and are free to apply it as often as you’d like. Keep in mind that you don’t want to over-cleanse. When removing the mascara, avoid using alcohol and oil-based makeup removers.

How do you maintain a lash lift?

Maintain your lash lift by following the recommended aftercare. Avoid water, steam, makeup for the first 48 hours. After that, try to use mild cleansers around the eyes. Avoid strong astringents or alcohol-based and oil-based eye makeup removers.

What should I put on my lashes after a lash lift?

Proper Lash Lift aftercare will help maximize the longevity of your lift. You can carefully add a little moisturizer to the lashes using a spoolie brush. Lash serums work as well.
