A tried and true form of pubic hair removal is waxing. Waxing is great because you get a smooth finish that lasts for weeks. Does it hurt? Well, let’s just say it’s the only spa service that you want to move along quickly! However, we have some tips on making your first bikini wax as pleasant as can be.
How do I prepare for my first bikini wax?
Our first tip is to make sure that your pubic hair is a good length for removal.
If the hair is too long it will cause unnecessary discomfort to an already uncomfortable service. If its longer than the first ridge on your pinky, that is where you are starting to get to the uncomfortable range.
On the other hand, if it’s too short it can increase the amount of hair that breaks. This results in more tweezing than necessary. If it’s under a quarter of an inch, then its most likely too short.
Course hair
If you have very course hair, using conditioner on that hair on the day of your waxing service helps to soften the hair. This conditioning makes the hair more flexible and less likely to break.
In addition, exfoliating a couple of days leading up to your spa appointment helps too. If there is hair that is just below the surface of the skin, exfoliation can help pop that up which we can tweeze during your visit.
What do I wear to a bikini wax?
We recommend wearing loose fitted bottoms including pants and underwear. Breathable fabrics, for example, cotton, help sooth after your service. Avoid items like thongs or g-strings, bring on the granny panties.
We hope you feel a little more prepared for your upcoming experience. Your service provider will take steps to ensure your comfort and care.

Fingernail fungus, also knows as onychomycosis, is pretty common in the feet but can occur in the fingernails as well. For the most part its harmless but it does change the appearance of the nail.
They begin to look unsightly and not very esthetically pleasing. The fungus can cause the nail to become really thick yet brittle, and separated from the nail bed. At this point you see major discolouration ranging from yellow to black.
Fingernail fungus can also affect the future growth of the nail. If the area was traumatized enough, the nail may not grow back normally afterwards even once the fungus is gone.
Most commonly people get nail infections because they get exposed to the fungus after some type of injury, such as cutting the nail improperly or having a tool shoved underneath the nail. In addition, certain illnesses like diabetes can cause a person to be more prone to fungal infections.
Treatment
An anti-fungal treatment where your nail is trimmed down and treated will help remove the fungus. You should receive an anti-fungal agent that you apply post treatment.
Post care
Anti-fungal drops. Also, it is important to wash your hands and keep your nails clean underneath and short if possible. Try not share nail clippers or if you’re going for services at a spa just make sure the equipment and tools are clean and disinfected. Nail files should not be shared.
Brittle nails sensitivity got you looking for treatment? Brittle nails are very thin nails that split, crack, and peel easily. Although it could be hereditary, there are other things that can cause brittle nails. Examples include dryness caused by certain soaps or detergents, a lack of moisture around the nails, aging, iron deficiency, other health conditions.
It is important that you get checked by a doctor if you see other changes in your health along with the brittle nails.
Brittle Nails Treatment
Our Classic Manicure is a great treatment not only because of the massage and paraffin application, but also the use of vitamin e lotion and cuticle oil nourishes the hands and nails with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Plus, the polish application helps to build strength.
Nail strengtheners can be used at home.
Have you heard of nail strengtheners or hardeners? They are useful as well and can be used at home or applied during your manicure.
Manicure abstinence?
Brittle nails can also be a result of bad manicures or bad nails jobs. Over-filing when applying or removing is a common cause of brittle nails. In addition, ripping off unwanted gel or acrylic nails will contribute to brittle nails.
If this is the case, you just have to wait until the nails rebuild strength! We recommend no more nail applications until the nails have restored themselves enough.
The cause of nail ridges can be many. Nail ridges are small lines running vertically on the nail. They can be deeper, with depressions or grooves on the nail, or slight bumps that typically run vertically. They can be caused by many reasons but most commonly are caused by age. However, they could also be due to improper nail care or injury. They can also be caused by certain illnesses. So, it important to have it checked out by your physician it if its getting worse and you are not an older person.
An additional cause of nail ridges could be due to a mineral/vitamin deficiency. Pay attention to changes in colour, severity, and deepness of the grooves. Also, watch for any inflammation around the root of the nail, or changes in the skin around the nail.
Treatment
During a manicure, we buff out the top of the surface of the nail making it as smooth as possible. After, we apply a nice base coat with a gel polish application to give it strength if it has become brittle.
After care: hand lotion. No buffing at home if you get regular manicures.
White spots on nails are often referred to as Leukonychia. This condition appears as small dots or white spots on nails, or lines underneath the fingernail. The causes for this condition are many. One of the causes can be an allergic reaction to something that came in contact with your nails. For example, gel or acrylic polish, or even cleansers or detergents can cause this type of reaction.
Another cause can be an injury to the nail. For instance, after application of artificial nails or a manicure gone wrong. Albeit rare, funguses can sometimes be the cause and should be checked out if the spots start to grow.
Other causes could be hereditary, the use of certain medicines or vitamins, or mineral deficiencies. In addition, certain illnesses can cause this as well. Talk to your doctor if the condition persists long term.
Treatment
There is not much aside from a nice manicure where we apply polish to mask and blend the spots. If the spots are covering 20% of the nail we recommend seeing a physician as it could be caused by something internal.
