The name can be a little discouraging, especially after a popular HBO show highlighted them in a scary (yet funny) way. Whether or not you watched the show in question- forget the drama! Peels are good for your skin. They refresh your skin and reveal a radiant glow.
No Fear, Just Glow.
Professional chemical peels are designed to effectively and safely remove the outer layers of the skin through the application of organic acids derived from natural sources. This process brings fresh plump cells to the surface of the skin giving it a vibrant, healthy, smooth and even appearance.
The strength of chemical peels vary widely as do their downtime. During your consultation, your esthetician will review any medical conditions, medications, or recent treatments that may affect your peel. In addition, your esthetician will recommend a treatment course and provide information on post treatment and possible side effects.
Peels are good for your skin and can be incorporated into your professional skin care regimen to help treat the appearance of fine lines, sun damage, pigmentation spots, and scarring.

Knowing the most common signs of aging can help you retain your youthful looks longer. Let’s discuss the most common signs, and the steps we can take towards delaying the aging process.
Loss of Elasticity
Loss of elasticity or ‘plumpness’ is attributed to collagen loss. Collagen is a building block of the skin. During our youth, collagen plumps the skin thereby creating volume. However, as we age we stop producing collagen at the same rate. This in turn affects the elasticity leaving us with saggy skin as we age. Plus, the loss of muscle tone is going to cause expression lines.
Loss of Hydration
Skin becomes dryer as we age because the sebaceous glands in the skin, like any other structure of the body, are not as active as we age. This loss of hydration manifests itself through a dull, sallow appearance, crepey skin, and fine lines. Overall, the texture of the skin changes as a result of water loss.
Hyperpigmentation
There are environmental factors such as sun exposure and climate as well as other pollutants and oxidants in the air that cause aging in general. These environmental factors can also contribute to hyperpigmattion which can cause an aged appearance to the skin. Hyperpigmentation can be in the form of freckles, sun spots, lentigines, etc.
Thin Skin
The thickness of the skin changes as well with aging. The skin tries to thin out as a result of the deficiencies in collagen and hydration.
Fighting the common signs of aging at home
Try to incorporate products that accelerate your skin’s cell turnover rate; They are very useful. Examples include retinol, glycolic and lactic acid. When combined, vitamins C and E make a good protectant.
When it comes to exfoliation, try using an enzymatic exfoliant. These are really good for anti-aging because they achieve deep exfoliation and hydration without causing friction at the surface.
Wearing SPF daily helps. Be mindful when you are being exposed to the sun for periods longer than 15-30 minutes consistently. Wear a hat during longer periods of sun exposure. Cooling the skin also helps, for example, cold spoons kept in the fridge will calm the skin and reduce inflammation.
Finally, avoid the use of irratating cleansers and moisturizers. Stick with products that actually bring nutrients to the skin.
Professional Treatments
When it comes to skin rejuvenation, photofacials are amazing because they do not cause superficial damage to the skin. The light energy penetrates directly to the main contributing factor of loss of elasticity which is the collagen cells.
We have a certain amount of collagen cells in our skin at any given time. When the light energy hits those cells, they are stimulated/traumatized enough so that they regenerate new collagen cells in order to replace those “traumatized” collagen cells. However, those collagen cells that are affected by the light energy for the most part are not completely destroyed, yet they are “repaired” in a sense so you end up with a multiplied amount of collagen present in your skin after a photofacial treatment.
How often does one have to massage their face to see results?
Giving yourself regular face massages at home has many benefits and anti aging effects. Giving your skin at least 60 seconds of stretch time and drainage really helps to release toxins in the skin that cause damage if not released.
Of course, we do not recommend that you go as deep as we do during a facial. If you were to compare what we do in a facial to the massage world, it would be considered a deep tissue massage. Facials are like a deep tissue massage for your face because the muscles are so superficial and fine. The massage we do during a facial gives the muscles the equivalent of a workout.
If you want to benefit from massage overall, doing a light massage daily at home to support what we do in the service also helps.
Does face tapping increase collagen?
This one is subject to opinion, but it is good in a way that it invigorates and stimulates the skin to do what it needs to do which is to get the circulation flowing.
Can facial massage reduce bags under the eyes?
Facial massaging can reduce bags under the eyes to a certain extent. If bags are caused by poor circulation to the skin it will help becasue you are draining certain fluids and toxins that are trapped in the skin.
However, if it is due to structural damage due to aging it won’t help. Also, if there is an underlying condition it is unlikely to help much. If you see puffiness or it looks like edema (fluid retention) at that point it would most likely be an underlying condition and its best to consult with a physician.
Enjoy the many facial massage benefits and book your RELAX facial!
Yes, facial massages really work depending on the results or effects you are looking to achieve with a facial massage. The RELAX facial works to help improve circulation which then helps with anti-aging, fluid draining, releasing toxins, and detoxifying the skin.
For dull, sallow complexion.
Facial massaging improves circulation which helps bring some flush back up to the surface of dull, sallow complexion. In addition, it helps with the absorption of products that are being used during a facial. This happens because we’re increasing circulation through muscle manipulation. The way your stomach is stimulated to start digestion when you take a bite of food, your skin’s excretion and absorption abilities get activated through massage.
The massage component during a RELAX facial increases circulation which gets things going and flowing.
Plus, lymphatic drainage!
The RELAX facial helps with lymphatic drainage which can reduce puffiness, as well as inflammation in the skin.
It also helps warm and relax the muscles which will give you anti-aging benefits because when the muscles are tense we create those harder frowns and creases in the skin, so it will not completely remove the wrinkles but it will help to relax the face.
Having the acids in the muscles released through massage really helps with mobilty and flexibilty. Good flexibility in the face can help reduce headaches and tension. In addition, while it will not repair or treat, it can alleviate symptoms of TMJ.
In conclusion, facial massages really work on many levels.
The best facial for anti aging can be found at Dérmica! Our facial menuoffers a variety of facials. Most of our facials include light extractions, a nourishing mask application, and Pressure-Point facial massage; All key players in the fight against aging.
How often should you have a facial?
We generally recommend booking every 4-6 weeks. However, this period depends on your age, skin type, and even work environment!
When we are young we tend to have oilier skin. This results in acne breakouts which we in turn try to cover up with cheap makeup. At least we were using cheap makeup back then!
Although our skin is tight and our pores are relatively small in our youth, years of this cycle make way for the changes we see as we age.
Environmental factors
There are certain environmental factors that will increase the rate at which your pores need a cleanup. Restaurant workers, particularly those in the kitchen, may see their skin become congested over time. This in part can be due to higher than normal temperatures. Those working outdoors during the summer may experience the same, due to similar reasons.
Do facials help with wrinkles?
Facials help with wrinkles to a certain degree: The exfoliation included in our facials will clear away your skin allowing products to be better absorbed. The pore extractions will clean your pores from within. The mask application will deliver anti-aging benefits through different key ingredients. The pressure-point facial massage will promote blood flow to your facial muscles.
However, for these effects to take place, facials must be a regular part of your routine. If facials have not been a part of your routine and you are looking to reverse some signs of aging, we recommend the ALISA photofacial.
As we age our bodies will inevitably go through many changes and stages. Our bodily functions begin to slow along with our lifestyles. We begin to notice changes in the way we look and feel.
Slowing of metabolism
One of the first things that may come to mind when considering the aging process is the slowing of metabolism. When we think about the declining rate of metabolism, most will only consider the metabolic rate of the digestive system. But what about the cell metabolism of our skin?
Our bodies are composed of billions of specialized cells. These cells are grouped according to functions, and make up the different body systems and organs within the human anatomy.
The largest organ found within the body is the skin. Its main function is to protect the body from the external environment and regulate body temperature. It is a reflection of your current health, age, and oftentimes your lifestyle.
