Dermaplaning Eligibility Criteria and Pre-Treatment.

skincare spa service- dermaplane

In dermaplaning, the technician gently grazes a medical-grade scalpel edge over the surface of the skin. This process delivers a fine shave that removes the surface layer, for example, dull skin and vellus facial hair

The process brightens the complexion and evens skin tone. Above all, it leaves the skin feeling supple and smooth.

PLEASE REVIEW THE CRITERIA BEFORE BOOKING YOUR SERVICE.

Recommended sessions: Results are often immediate. 4-6 weeks recommended for regular maintenance.

Recommendations: Pair your dermaplaning treatment with a  BOOST Mild Peel to amplify results. The AHA boost relieves dry skin, reduces fines lines and pigmentation. On the other hand, the BHA boost cleanses and decongests oily skin.

Pre-treatment protocols:

  • You must not currently be on or have used any oral prescription acne medications, for example, Accutane, in the past 12 months.
  • Discontinue using products containing AHA/BHA/Retin A/Vitamin A on the area being treated 24 hours prior to procedure.
  • Avoid waxing and shaving for at least 2 weeks prior to your appointment.

Downtime required: 24 hours. Certain makeup can be applied after 12 hours, for instance, mineral makeup or tinted moisturizer. Similarly, avoid direct sun exposure for 48 hours.

Time frame: 45-75 minutes. To clarify, shorter time frames correspond to half face treatments.

Contraindications:

  • Recent sunburn (1 week post burn)
  • Active infection of Herpes Simplex in treatment area
  • Active skin infection

Dermaplaning vs Waxing

dermaplaning vs waxing

What is the difference?

Consider the following information when deciding to book dermaplaning vs waxing:

A FINE DIFFERENCE…

Waxing, unlike dermaplaning, is not able to pick up the very fine vellus hair.

Vellus hair is typically about 2 shades lighter than the natural hair colour or has no pigment at all. It’s really fine and has been eroding over the years through friction so its really hard for the wax (unless it is a specialty wax) to pick up these hairs.

MINOR TRAUMA

Also, waxing, although there are great formulas used in waxing services nowadays, there is still that minor trauma caused to the skin. That tug that happens isn’t always the greatest in really sensitive areas such as the eyes, the mouth, and the nose. While it does provide a bit of exfoliation, it does so in a really uncontrolled manner so there is a lot more chance of injuring the skin.

THE BRIGHT SIDE…

Dermaplaning delivers a very fine and detailed exfoliation surpassing the level of exfoliation delivered by waxing. For this reason, dermaplaning results is a brighter and even complexion.

What will dermaplaning do for my skin?

The process brightens the complexion, evens skin tone, and leaves the skin feeling supple and smooth.

How does dermaplaning work?

The technician gently grazes a medical-grade scalpel edge over the surface of the skin. This process delivers a fine shave that removes the dull surface skin and vellus facial hair.

When will I notice my results?

A: The results of dérmaPLANE are seen immediately following the procedure. The goal is to leave the skin feeling softer and looking radiant. Contrast is most evident when comparing the appearance before and after service, in those who have major build up and visible hair growth.

Q: Are there any side effects?

A: There are typically no side effects from the procedure. Your skin may feel slightly exposed and sensitive for 1-2 hours following. It is recommended that with any professional skin care service extended sun exposure is avoided for a minimum 24-hour period.

How to prepare for your dermaplaning treatment.

Your skin should be at a resilient state therefore, we ask that you refrain from using strong products or having other procedures on your skin prior to your dermaplaning service.

  • Stop using AHA/ BHA/ Retin A/Vitamin A/Hydroquinone 24 hours prior to your service. These products may cause the skin to become sensitized. If you are using prescribed topicals, consult with your doctor.
  • Avoid waxing and shaving for at least 2 weeks prior to your appointment.
  • Arrive with a clean face if possible. Eye makeup and lip colour are fine.
  • Remove facial jewelry otherwise these areas may need to be avoided.

How long will I be in my appointment?

dérmaPLANE alone requires 45 minutes – 1.15 hours of service. If you are a new guest to dérmica, you will need about 5 minutes to fill your intake form. Be mindful of parking and traffic in the community.

What is the after care?

Makeup is to be avoided for a 24-hour period as this can clog the pores and introduce bacteria. As with any professional skin care service, we recommend the use of quality products in order to preserve and prolong your dermaplaning results.
