Knowing the healing stages of microblading can help you better plan for your procedure. Here is what you can expect of your brow healing journey.
The first stage if healing is typically inflammation. So, you body will send signals to the areas which will make for higher activity in that area than you are used to. For example, you will likely have some inflammation, redness, and weeping.
Weeping is lymphatic fluid seeping though the cut. This process helps move along the healing process. Blood and fluids clot the area usually within the first couple of hours after your microblading, that is, if not during the procedure.
Days 2-3 see the forming of scabs. These are filled with a little bit of ink, lymphatic fluid, and blood. The scabs eventually separate which is how you get that flaking part of the process. Flaking can last between days 4-6, depending on your skin.
Once all the flaking has finished, you will have fresh juicy cells at the top. Still, you may feel a little tenderness and it could still look scabby and patchy during days 7-10.
End of Healing
By the time you get to week 2, the skin cells have begun to compress and dry, therefore the colour starts to come back up to the surface.
From there, everything seems pretty consistent as you are now healed. Keep in mind that the colour continues to come closer to the surface. It can take up to 6 weeks for the colour to come up and your skin to look visibly healed. However, for up to 12 weeks, your skin is still reforming all of the collagen fibres and networks that make it solid under the surface. The 12th week marks the end of the stages of healing for microblading.
Are you medically eligible for procedure?
Microblading, like all other forms of tattooing, has risks associated with the procedure that though uncommon, must be reviewed. Please read carefully through the following contraindications to ensure you meet criteria.
There are some post-treatment instructions to follow after microblading. Knowing the post-treatment instructions beforehand can help you best prepare for the big day. A common question clients ask is, “How many days after microblading should I shower?
Technically you can shower right away after microblading as long as you avoid soaking the area. Soaking can result from shampooing or washing. As long as you have visible scabs, you should be quick with your showers, or opt for baths.
You are safe to return to regular once those scabs have shed and your skin is smooth and healed. Until then, soaking can result in you losing those scabs prematurely. This is problematic because your skin needs to heal around that colour first, and drop the scab naturally. If removed prematurely, even one tiny fibre, it may end up pulling an entire hair stroke.
You can wear makeup anywhere around your face and lashes. However, we recommend that you avoid anything over the brow area.
In addition, stay away from makeup that contains any type of shimmer/metallic glitter. Whether it’s on the face or around the eyes this should be avoided at all costs. These products have small metallic particles that can get lodged in the colour causing it to change shades or cause infection.
Let’s measure pain on a scale of 1 to 5; With 1 being the lowest, and 5 being the highest amount of pain felt during the procedure. With proper numbing and preparation of the skin, most clients will report a 0.5 at the beginning and a 3 towards the end of their service.
On the other hand, some people don’t feel anything the entire time. It comes down to how the person’s body takes to topical anesthetic. For instance, if you don’t do well in dental procedures involving anaesthetic, chances are your skin won’t take well to topical anaesthetic used for microblading brows.
In addition, personal pain tolerance also has a lot to do it. To decrease pain level, we recommend following the precautions prior to your appointment. Examples include avoiding all forms of caffeine, and getting enough sleep the night before. For women specifically, menstruation may cause extra sensitivity.
Medications and Microblading
There are some medications that add to skin sensitivity. If you are taking any medication we recommend talking to your pharmacist. Some medications are a contraindication to microblading, for example, blood thinners.
Blood thinners are used by people that have high blood pressure and/or are prone to blood clots. They thin the blood which causes you to bleed more during microblading which can in turn result in less retention of pigment.
Does microblading ruin your natural brows?
Microblading does not affect the current growth of the brow. It can however stimulate hair growth because of the layers that we are cutting into. Some of our clients report new hair growth where hair growth had been lost.

Follow the MICROBLADING POST TREATMENT GUIDE until your brows have completely flaked and healed. The healing process can take up to 10 days and varies with each individual.
MICROBLADING POST TREATMENT GUIDE
Hot temperatures will irritate your brows during the first 12 hours, therefore remain indoors and fan if necessary.
DO NOT touch brow with unwashed hands, doing so can cause infection.
DO NOT soak brows. Showers and baths are safe; keep your brows away from direct water contact as this may cause color to fade.
Face washing and moisturizing instructions:
Gently cleanse lower half and forehead with your daily cleanser in the morning. When rinsing cleanser away, use a warm face cloth avoiding drip from forehead onto brows.
Dampen a clean gauze or cotton pad with the cleanser and gently wipe brows in outward motion. Blot dry with dry gauze/pad.
Once your brows begin scab or flake, apply a small amount of the moisturizer over the brows after washing in the morning and evening.
5. DO NOT use ANY makeup or SPF directly over the brow area until brows have completely healed. This may alter color tone or blur strokes.
6. AVOID direct sunlight, this can cause the pigment to fade and irritate the skin.
7. DO NOT pick or lift scabs or flakes from brows, this may pull the pigment prematurely causing fading or gaps in strokes.
8. Brow can be lightly tweezed around area treated but not directly over for 3 weeks. Waxing procedure can be performed 4 weeks following procedure.
