IPL Hair Removal : What is it?

ipl hair removal what is it

What does “IPL” stand for?

To better understand what IPL Hair Removal is, let’s start of by defining “IPL”. IPL stands for Intense Pulse Light. Furthermore, DPC stands for Dynamic Pulse Control. These 2 acronyms go hand in hand when explaining our chosen technology to deliver these treatments. By emitting a light beam into the hair follicle, this treatment coagulates the melanin when the light beam turns into heat energy. This “zaps” the hair follicle, leaving it unable to grow new hair.

The DPC technology means that we can determine the “aggressiveness” of the treatment based on the duration of the pulse. In other words, shorter pulses are more aggressive, delivering the light beam in a shorter period of time, while longer pulses are less aggressive as they have a longer period to deliver the light beam.

Above all, the different range of pulse durations results in a major increase in the safety and effectiveness of the treatment.

How does light-based technology work?

Light-based technology works through Selective Photothermolysis. This is the selective thermal damage of pigmented structures. It selects tissue to be destroyed by selecting tissue with significantly greater optical absorption than the surrounding tissue.

In layman’s terms, the light beam is attracted to darker pigments, thereby being able to distinguish the hair from the skin.

Because these advanced treatments involve the application of heat, not everyone is eligible for IPL Hair Removal treatments. Factors such as your rating on the Fitzpatrick Skin Type Classification Scale and your previous experience with sunburn may make you ineligible for this procedure.

Ensure that wherever you go for this procedure provides you with a thorough consultation!!!

Is IPL different than LASER hair removal?

Yes, they are different permanent hair removal procedures that have a similar purpose and achieve similar results. While laser uses an actual laser, IPL Hair Removal uses pulse light.

Dermaplaning Treatment

How long does a dermaplaning treatment last for?

There are 2 different results that you get from your dermaplaning treatment. In regards to the hair growth aspect, we would say it takes 6-8 weeks for the fine vellus facial hair to grow back. As for the skin resurfacing aspect, dermaplane provides a superficial exfoliation that also lasts 6-8 weeks. Once buildup returns, it’s not as much a before.

Does hair grow back stubbly after dermaplaning?

Although it can feel that way, it does not actually change the hair growth pattern. The hair has basically just been cut blunt so it’s no longer thinned out by regular daily friction caused by the hair that was there previously. Eventually the hair will smooth out again.

What will adding a boost do to my dermaplane service?

It will amplify the effects that are being sought after according to the boost selected. While dermaplane will do the same for everyone, you can personalize your service and target you problem areas by choosing either a BHA boost for oily, congested, acne-prone skin, or by choosing the AHA boost for dry textured, mature, dull, uneven skin tone, or hyper-pigmented skin. A Vitamin C boost is good for brightening the skin.

microblading- how many sessions

How many sessions does microblading take?

Microblading takes two sessions: One is the initial procedure, followed by the second session, the Refresher. It is the second session that allows microblading to boast its long lasting effects. Both sessions are included in the cost.

The Refresher session can be done as early as 6 weeks post initial procedure, and as late as 12 months after the initial procedure. This time varies individually and is related to the healing process.

How to prepare for your microblading sessions

Before booking your appointment, review this PRE-TREATMENT GUIDE to help you select the best date for your appointment. Taking necessary precautions prior to your appointment will ensure that your procedure can be performed safely and effectively.

IPL or LASER?

IPL or LASER Hair Removal

There are some things to consider when deciding between IPL or LASER hair removal. Below are some popular questions clients ask when making their choice.

Is IPL as strong as LASER?

The short answer is yes. IPL is as strong in terms of delivering results. The amount of sessions required are similar with both systems. In other words, you get the same results in the end. The main different between IPL and LASER is the type of light they are emitting. LASER uses a single beam, whereas IPL delivers a broad spectrum. This means that the system delivers different types of treatments because you have more range in that light spectrum.

What are the advantages of IPL over LASER?

If we are basing it on results, they are on par with each other. Now, based on the comfort level of the service, IPL tends to be more gentle with the surrounding tissue. The reason for this is that broad spectrum we mentioned earlier. Within that spectrum, depending on the person’s hair tone, skin tone, and the number of sessions they’ve had, the machine will filter out a specific depth of penetration that will only affect the target so that the surrounding tissue is not compromised.

Do IPL and LASER hair removal feel similar?

IPL and LASER do not feel similar. With IPL, the system wIll make direct contact with the person’s skin, whereas LASER will hover over the skin.

Another difference is that LASER typically uses a hose that outputs cold air to cool the skin. On the other hand, with IPL, depending on the system, the technician may use an ultrasound jelly to keep the skin cold. Other systems, for example the Sharplight system that we use, uses contact cooling, via the actual window that touches the skin.

Can you switch from LASER to IPL and vice versa?

Yes, you can safely switch because they are both light based treatments. Some differences you may notice are the way the treatments are delivered. Examples include the cooling mechanism, the sitting time, and possibly the frequency of treatments.

When it comes to your currents results, it should not have an effect on your current results or cause any regrowth to happen. If this happens, it’s most likely not the system. However, it could be that your settings are not set accordingly. This is why it’s important to let your technician know that you have had previous treatments, how many treatments you’ve had and also the efficacy of those treatments.
