Located on Whyte Avenue in Edmonton, Dérmica offers waxing hair removal service amongst other spa services
Traditionally, waxing involves the use of warm wax, typically honey or pine resin-based and cloth strips. The esthetician first preps the area by disinfecting and applying a protective barrier to the skin. The warm wax is then applied using a wooden spatula and covered with a cloth strip; this is referred to as strip waxing or soft waxing. The strip is then quickly pulled off parallel to the skin and voíla your skin is left smooth and hair free!
Ensure your hair is at least ¼ inch long prior to booking a wax service. In addition, skin must not been sunburned, treated with AHA/BHA, or prescription acne medications. Avoid caffeine for a couple hours before your appointment to reduce sensitivity. Results are visible for about 2 weeks, with 4-6 weeks before you are ready for your next visit. After care for waxing includes: avoiding heat, sun exposure, strong/fragranced, lotions, and washes for 24 hours and frequent skin exfoliation.

Long term hair removal
For a permanent solution, opt for Laser/IPL hair removal treatments. These advanced treatments should only be performed by trained and certified technicians, so do your research before going for the bargain service. Shaving is the necessary for most IPL/Laser treatments, so it’s best to have it shaved down prior to appointment.
The tech will begin by disinfecting your skin. Next, she will provide you with your protective eyewear before she goes zapping away. For the following 24-48 hours you will be required to avoid direct heat, perspiration, sun exposure, strong/fragranced soaps, lotions and washes.
Like waxing, ensure skin has not been sunburned, treated with AHA/BHA, or medications/vitamins affecting the skin. Typically you will notice a stunt in the growth of hair, followed by what seems to be continued growth. Four to six weeks after, the hair will begin to fall out. At this point you are ready for your next session. Most people require 6-8 treatments to see maximum results, but of course some machines are built better than others, so results may vary.
These treatments are somewhat of an investment and cause injury to your skin if not delivered properly, so do your research and make sure operational requirements are met by both the business and technician.
TIPS
For irritating razor burn and ingrown hairs we recommend picking up some “Bump Stopper”. This solution can be found in the ethnic hair care section at most drug store/supermarkets. You can also try Glo Skin Beauty’s Purifying Gel Cleanser, a great foaming wash with powerful acne-fighting ingredients that stimulate exfoliation and clears pores.
Located in Edmonton, Dérmica offers Brazilian wax hair removal in Edmonton.
Though waxing is considered a basic esthetics service, it can have side effects such as lifting of the skin. Prepare for your waxing service by reviewing our waxing protocol.
Brazilian or Hollywood?
Are you questioning whether to book a Brazilian or a Hollywood? Many spas call their full removal service “Brazilian”. However, the traditional method of Brazilian waxing includes the removal of hair that would be exposed when wearing a Brazilian thong.
We recommend booking a Hollywood wax if full removal is your goal.
Saturday Waxing Special
Our Saturday Waxing Special includes all body and bikini waxing. Book your Brazilian wax appointment on Saturdays to receive 20% OFF your waxing service.

Skincare
Skincare is one of our menu highlights. Our skin care menu includes our top-rated facial- the ‘PORE’ facial. Dérmica gained popularity with thePORE over the years as one of the few remaining spas in Edmonton that does pore extraction.
Our more advanced skincare treatments include chemical peels and photofacials. These medesthetics treatments transform the skin to reveal a more radiant, youthful-looking you.
IPL therapies
“Laser” is commonly used as an umbrella term to describe phototherapy. Phototherapy uses light energy to treat major skin conditions and permanently remove unwanted hair. While “laser” is a popular form of phototherapy, other forms include infrared fractional, radio frequency, and our favourite, Intense Pulse Light (IPL).
IPL safely delivers pulses of UV light into the skin to improve skin health and remove unwanted facial and body hair.
Esthetics
Brow services are our menu’s delights. In fact, the brow Sculpt put Dérmica on the map in our early days! From regular brow waxing to semi-pemanent microblading, clients have been trusting us with their brows for years.
Other esthetics services include waxing, lash lift, relaxation massage body treatments, manicures and pedicures. Our services are a mix of traditional European techniques combined with a treatment approach, and of course, an added touch of luxury.

Our top 3 rated serums include EyEnvy, Latisse (must be prescribed), and Adoreyes. Unfortunately, EyEnvy was discontinued and is no longer available in Canada as a lash and brow growth serum.
What are the key ingredients in Adoreyes?
Adoreyes boasts their Triple Peptide Complex technology:
The Vitamin and Hydro Complex with Biotin, Niacinamide, and Panthenol moisturizes lashes and brows to make them look lush and beautiful while offering significant results without harmful ingredients.
Botanical Extracts such as pumpkin and grape seeds boost the health of natural lashes and eyebrows by conditioning and protecting them from breakage and dryness.
The Repair and Damage Complex with Arginine and amino acids rejuvenates and fortifies eyelashes and eyebrows.
Home tips for restoring your brows
Exfoliating your eyebrows once or twice a week helps to stimulate the area. If you are exfoliating specifically for brow growth, we recommend using a physical exfoliant. These types of products refresh the skin under the brows by removing dead skin cells and debris.
🌱 Environmentally-friendly exfoliants
Looking for an environmentally-friendly option? Try an exfoliant with jojoba beads. Jojoba beads are smooth spheres that provide gentle exfoliation and dissolve. As a result, they do not cause harm to the environment.

IPL and LASER hair removal on the legs offer different procedures that have a similar purpose and achieve similar results. Located in Edmonton, AB., Dérmica offers temporary and permanent hair removal solutions.
Is laser hair removal effective on legs?
IPL/ LASER hair removal on the legs is effective even on light hair! Advanced IPL / LASER operating systems can now effectively treat lighter hair tones.
Hair colour plays an important role when setting expectations for treatment outcomes. The light energy pulsed by the operating system targets pigment cells found in the hair bulb. As a result, the more pigment cells present, the more energy is absorbed and therefore, producing optimal results.
How painful is laser on legs?
While LASER uses an actual laser, IPL uses pulse light. As a result, you may feel a slight, momentary sting, such as the snap of an elastic band, during your IPL treatments.
The sensation felt when the energy is delivered is described by most as a small pin-prick shock lasting only milliseconds. When graded on a scale from 1-5 for the pain felt during the session, clients will on average report under a level 3. The portion of the device that is in contact with the skin has a patented cooling system that keeps your skin slightly numb on contact.
Should I shave my legs before laser?
Yes, we ask that the hair be shaved flush to the skin. The reason for this is because the laser’s target is melanin. If there is hair that is long enough to cast a shadow on the skin or fold over on to the skin, that area will get the get unnecessary heat at the surface of the skin which may cause burns.
For first timers, you must wait at least 3 weeks after waxing or tweezing before your visit. The active bulbs are required to be intact for best result.
How long does laser hair removal last legs?
Results vary and can last between 1 – 5 years before a touch-up is required.Although IPL / LASER hair removal are considered methods of “permanent hair removal”, these treatments often require touch-ups. The typical span is 1 to 5 years.
How many sessions for hairy legs?
Body areas require longer rebooking timeframes than facial areas. The typical regimen is 8-12 treatment sessions, spaced 4-12 weeks apart, depending on the body area. Therefore, your treatment course could last up to 2 years when doing IPL/ LASER hair removal on the legs. That is to say, a successful IPL treatment course requires commitment.
The exact number of sessions will depend on genetics and personal preference. Clients report 20-60% reduction after the first treatment. Each session afterwards will reduce the remaining amount of hair by approximately 10%. Sessions are continued until the client has reached their reduction goal and growth has been stopped.
