Pore Extraction Facials

Pore Extractions

Q: My skin is normally clear, but lately I have been experiencing small bumps throughout my cheek and chin area. What can I do to get rid of this issue?

A: You start by having a pore extraction facial to pull the “bumps” (comedones and blackheads) out of your skin. This process involves thorough cleansing and light resurfacing, before an ozone steaming session. The steam opens the pores and softens the surface of the skin making extractions a breeze. Blackheads and oil-build up are pulled out of the skin leaving your pores clear of visible debris. Closed comedones (whiteheads) are pierced with a small lancet allowing for trapped debris to be safely removed.

After having your skin purged of impurities, it is important to stick to a regular cleansing and nourishing routine. Start by cleansing with a cleanser containing the appropriate blend of ingredients suitable for your skin type. Double cleansing is recommended every evening so your skin can breath and absorb nutrients overnight. Moisturizer should be applied while the skin is still humid in order to seal in added hydration. Regardless of your skin type moisturizer is very important in maintaining a healthy balance in your skin.

You may have blemishes pop up over the following week, this is normal as all the impurities are making their way up to the surface. If you are confident with your extractions, you can gently extract these blemishes after cleansing and a steamy shower. Although, if you can’t get it in the first 2 attempts then let it be as this may cause bruising or damage to the skin.

Once your skin has made a full recovery after 4-6 days, your skin should look and feel smoother with minimized pore size. You can schedule your facial sessions 4-6 weeks apart and once you’ve cleared the excess, seasonal facial and home maintenance should be suffice.

Hope this helps :)

Lash Lift Care and other FAQs

This lash lift care information will help you take care of your lash lift. This articles reviews frequently asked questions.

Q: What is a LASH LIFT?

A: Lash lifts are a gentle form of lash perming that curls the natural lashes along the lash line. It gives the appearance of longer more feminine lashes.

Q: How does it work?

A: The first step is to open the bonds in the hair, giving flexibility within the mid shaft where the curl is found. The second step sets the lashes into position and seals the hair shaft. The third step reintroduces moisture back into the lashes.

Q: How long does it last?

A: Lash lifts can last up to 12 weeks depending on after-care products used and thickness of lashes. Minimize rubbing and use gentle products on eye area. Thick lashes are more resistant and will fall faster than thin lashes.

Q: How do I care for my lashes after the treatment?

A: Avoid water for 48hrs, therefore, coming to your appointment with freshly washed hair will be of benefit.

You must also avoid makeup, and pressure on the lashes for 48hrs. It is recommended to sleep on your back in order to avoid bending the lashes overnight. Using a lash comb to lift and operate the lashes will help set.

Afterwards you can return to your regular routine and products.

Q: Will the lash lift damage my lashes?

A: It is recommend that clients wait 12 weeks between lash lifts. This allows your hair to recover and regenerate new growth.

Q: Are there any allergies I must be aware of?

A: It is rare for reactions to occur as the products are kept strictly on the lashes. People who have sensitivity to latex are not recommended to have the service, as the adhesive used does contain latex.

If you have ever reacted to artificial lash glue used for strip lashes, you are at risk of having a reaction. Typical allergic reaction will cause the eyes to swell for up to 72 hours.

What did you notice first? The eyelashes or the eyebrows?

1. Cleanse and moisturize morning and evening. Use a PRE CLEANSER such as our Glô Skin Beauty Gentle Cream Cleanser in the evenings over your brow area.

2. AVOID caffeinated beverages 2 hours prior to appointment as this can cause skin sensitivity.

3. DO NOT consume alcohol 12 hours prior to scheduled appointment as this can cause excessive bleeding and sensitivity during treatment.

4. Apply SPF over brow area before sun exposure. AVOID direct sunlight and extended sun exposure.

5. DO NOT take the following medications/ supplements during the 72 hours leading up to your procedure: **Consult and report with your physician prior to stopping medication**

  • Acetylsalicylic Acid (ASA) medications. Example: Asprin™.
  • Anticoagulants (blood thinners)
  • Niacin

6. Direct contact with water will need to be avoided for 72 hours following your procedure; therefore make sure to wash your hair prior to your appointment.

POST-TREATMENT GUIDE

The following guide will help you care for your fresh brows and ensure you achieve best results. Your brows may feel sore and bruised immediately following your procedure; this usually dissipates within 12 hours.

Follow the POST-TREATMENT GUIDE until your brows have completely flaked and healed. The healing process can take up to 10 days and varies with each individual.

1. Hot temperatures will irritate your brows during the first 12 hours, therefore remain indoors and fan if necessary.

2. DO NOT touch brow with unwashed hands, doing so can cause infection.

3. DO NOT soak brows. Showers and baths are safe; keep your brows away from direct water contact as this may cause color to fade.

4. Face washing and moisturizing instructions:

  • Gently cleanse lower half and forehead with your daily cleanser in the morning. When rinsing cleanser, use a warm face cloth avoiding drip from forehead onto brows.
  • Dampen a clean gauze or cotton pad with your cleanser and gently wipe brows in outward motion. Blot dry with dry gauze/pad.
  • Once your brows begin scab or flake, apply a small amount of moisturizer over the brows after washing in the morning and evening.

5. DO NOT use ANY makeup or SPF directly over the brow area until brows have completely healed. This may alter color tone or blur strokes.

6. AVOID direct sunlight, this can cause the pigment to fade and irritate the skin.

7. DO NOT pick or lift scabs or flakes from brows, this may pull the pigment prematurely causing fading or gaps in strokes.

8. Brow can be lightly tweezed around area treated but not directly over for 3 weeks.

How long does Microblading last?

Microblading eyebrows how long does it last

HOW LONG DOES MICROBLADING LAST?

Microblading is a semipermanent eyebrow procedure that can last up to 3 years. The longevity of your procedure comes down to the following factors:

DEPTH OF INCISION

The procedure is able to hold its colour for so long because we deposit pigment into the epidermal layer, below the surface of the skin. During the recovery period (10 days) the skin forms a light scab over the incisions. These scabs eventually slough away leaving the pigment enclosed in the epidermis. As the skin continues to regenerate through the years, the pigment is eventually pushed up to the outermost layer of the skin and is shed along with the skin.

This process can take up to 3 years with proper care and maintenance. Knowing how deep to go when making the incisions is a key factor (along with pretreating the skin and of course, following post care instructions) in the longevity of your microblading. Making the incisions too deep will cause the pigment to be deposited in the dermis layer of your skin thereby making your procedure permanent and increases the risk of scarring over the treatment site. Not going deep enough will make your brows fade prematurely.

THICKNESS OF SKIN

As skin experts, knowledge of the skin gives Dérmica comprehensive insight of this procedure. Typically, the head area of the brow has thicker skin in comparison to the arch and the tail. Skin thickness varies by sex, age, skin type, skin tone, health, and lifestyle.

Thicker skin generally means that there are more pores and the skin is oilier. The skin thins as we age so typically, older people have thinner skin, as well as people with a fair skin tone. Also, because older skin does not regenerate as quickly, it has shown to hold pigment better since it is not as oily. This understanding helps us use correct amount of pressure on the skin in order to get to the depth we want.

PRETREATMENT AND POST CARE OF THE SKIN

During your microblading procedure, we use a fine sharp blade to make incisions into the skin in order to insert pigment. As a result your skin experiences a bit of trauma, which is why preparation and post care play such an important role.

By providing you with Pre-Treatment guidelines and a Care kit, we encourage you to take necessary precautions prior to treatment to ensure that your treatment can be performed safely and effectively, and increase the success rate of your microblading.

Underarm Whitening

Embarrassed with my Pits: Underarm Hyperpigmentation

We came across this submission and decided it was a good one to share as underarm whitening is common across medium to darker skin tones:

Dear Dérmica,

I really feel embarrassed with my pits due to dark discolouration with the use of deodorant. Do you have any recommendations for underarm whitening, as this will help me to increase self-esteem.

Thank you,

Anonymous

Dear Anonymous,

It is important to properly diagnose the causes of your condition in order to understand the triggers. There are products available that will help to remove that dark pigment and also lighten the skin.

DAILY POLISHING CLEANSER

UNDERARM WHITENING PRODUCTS DERMICA

A key ingredient in the Daily Polishing Cleanser is Salicylic acid. Salicylic acid is a Beta Hydroxy Acid (BHA) that penetrates into pores and exfoliates the inside of the follicle. This helps to eliminate the build-up of dead skin cells, which contributes to congestion. Salicylic acid smooths the skin’s surface.

BRIGHTENING POLISH EXFOLIANT

underarm whitening

Another option is to try using products with Kojic Acid. Kojic acid is a skin-lightening agent that is produced by several species of fungi. Kojic acid blocks new melanin production, eventually lightening your skin (when applied regularly). We recommend the Brightening Polish by Glo Skin Beauty.

Hope this helps :)
