A: Chemical peels work by separating the upper layers of the skin causing an accelerated cell turnover rate. Because of their molecular structure, these acids are able to penetrate past the acid mantle of the skin and deep into the layers beneath the surface of the skin. This causes your skin to shed and regenerate a new layer of skin in a 1 to 2 week period.
Q: How many treatments are needed? A: The number of treatments needed depends on the severity of the condition we are treating. However, even if we are not treating any major skin concerns, it’s a good idea to incorporate a couple of peels annually to your anti-aging skin regimen by the age of 30.
Q: What type of acid is used? A: The acids used in professional chemical peels are typically derived from natural sources and produced for safe usage on the skin. Most commonly used acids include glycolic acid, trichloroacetic acid, salicylic acid, lactic acid, or carbolic acid (phenol).
